Sherwood Hill Campus 

News from Leadership Team 

This week we had a very exciting time with three residential trips for Key Stage 2, 3, and 5! Pupils went over the week to Woodlarks Campsite and to Alice Holt Park with highlights being inclusive cycling, woodland walks, outdoor swimming and pizzas! During the evening, pupils enjoyed hot chocolates and marshmallows and worked on their independence skills while staying away from home! In our staff twilight session this week we had a refresher of Studio 111 and ended the evening with some team-building games developing our relationships, communication skills and quick thinking as a group!

 Hill Campus – Summer Term events and dates

Lower School News 

Pupil using water spray bottle Lower School pupils had a brilliant week. Mint Class enjoyed a lovely outdoor sensory circuit session in the sunshine with our SaLT and OT, with lots of opportunities to develop communication and gross motor skills.

Olive and Teal Classes continued exploring this term’s topic, Splish, Splash, Splosh, through exciting water-based sensory activities. Pupils enjoyed making marks with water sprays, filling and dropping water balloons, and taking part in outdoor water play that encouraged curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning experiences.

Lime Class enjoyed listening to the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and took part in a bear hunt obstacle trail. They walked through a tray of grass, balanced along a blue beam, put their hands in thick, oozy cocoa powder, and crawled through a tunnel to find a friendly bear to cuddle. It was so much fun!

Middle School News 

Pupils playing table tennisMany pupils from Middle School attended the residential trip this week. In Indigo class they have continued their learning about the enchanted forest. The children enjoyed listening to a fairy story and then worked hard to create their own version on fairy paper. Sapphire Class have been exploring poetry this week alongside colours e.g. “red roses” and “blue violets”. In Capri Class they have been learning about healthy lifestyles and how to keep safe in the sun e.g. wearing hats and sunblock - just in time for the sunny weather! Iris Class have been busy engaging in geography community visits, looking at ‘field work’ and exploring the different trees and hills at Carshalton Park. In Ocean Class they have been exploring oral hygiene routines within their healthy lifestyle lessons.

Upper School News 

Pupils eating on residential trip A number of pupils from across Upper School attended the residential trip this week. Everyone had a brilliant time and took part in lots of new activities. At school, pupils explored sequencing in maths, using everyday routines like brushing teeth and washing hands to help understand the order of steps in a process. We also explored the topic of 'under the sea' and learnt about which animals live in different habitats and explored writing using alternative pencils about sea scenes. A new dance session also took place, where pupils had lots of fun exploring movement.

Roman for fantastic progress with his use of the core board. He has tapped on a symbol both at home and at school this week for the first time.

Kyla Rae for following instructions to complete a task and for practising her fine motor skills too. Great work Kyla Rae!

Rocco for using his choice board to independently select which area he would like to work in. Well done, Rocco, keep up the fantastic work!

Lime
Boiken for being the stand-out learner during the dance lesson and his interest in our ‘Hot and Cold’ exploration lesson.  

Indigo
Kevontae for working hard with his transitions around school and taking a new route to the classroom in the mornings. Well done Kevontae. 

Sapphire
Ben P for following safety instructions during the residential trip and using co-regulation strategies to engage in all the activities.

Iris
Nana for fantastic engagement in swimming on the residential trip and actively engaging with his peers.

Capri
Anish for making great progress with his communication using both his core board and verbally sharing new words such as “blue” in context.

Ocean
Dylan for advocating for himself on the residential trip and adapting to a change from his normal school day. 

Thistle
James for fantastic use of his high-tech AAC system and demonstrating his knowledge of lots of new words.

Violet
Steven for engaging in lots of new activities on the residential trip and showing fantastic listening skills throughout the day!

Lilac
Summer for showing the confidence to travel on a public bus to visit the park and take part in her exercise. Well done, Summer!

Lavender
Ethan for showing great flexibility and independence during the overnight residential trip, adapting to new environments and activities while helping staff and classmates with cooking and cleaning. Well done, Ethan!

Wellbeing
Ethan H for having an amazing time on the residential trip, engaging in lots of fun and unfamiliar activities while remaining regulated using his strategies. Well done Ethan.

Therapy
Kaylum for showing fantastic engagement during a sensory gym session, using vocalisations, eye contact, and purposeful communication to request “more” during the parachute game. Well done, Kaylum!

Sherwood Park Campus

News from the Leadership Team 

This week in assembly pupils celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday! Sunflower Class led the assembly; explaining who David Attenborough is, what he does, and they watched some iconic moments from his documentaries. Pupils and staff engaged in a call and response poem about David Attenborough and had to make animal sounds and movements, such as stomping like an elephant and buzzing like a bee!

We are excited to let you know about our Sports Day plans this year. We will be hosting the Sherwood Park Olympics! This will take place during the week of the 8th - 12th June, with an Opening Ceremony on Monday 8th with school events including swimming, accessible races and activities throughout the week. Traditional sports day relay races at The Change Foundation sports ground will take place on Thursday 11th June in the morning and then a Closing Ceremony on the Friday. We would like to invite parents to join us and we will be sending out a schedule of events that your child will be taking part in so that you can choose what you would like to attend.

Park Campus - Summer Term events 

Lower School News

Pupils and staff in the Lower School have had an amazing week. In Maths, students explored capacity and 2D shapes, while in Science and Technology they explored solids and liquids. They also enjoyed dance sessions, time in 'Sam’s Space' (sensory room), swimming, visits to the park, and learning about the weather. In Literacy, pupils read The Singing Mermaid and answered questions about the story to develop their understanding. They also continued exploring the use of an alternative pencil, completed shared writing focused on the letter ‘e’ and explored the initial sounds of words linked to the Letter of the Week.

Middle School News 

Pupil painting a picture Middle School have had a busy week, a highlight was our cooking lesson with pupils working on their independence. Tulip Class made their own toasties, Sunflower Class worked on preparing their own snacks at snack time and Poppy Class made tuna salad wraps. It all looked delicious! Lily class had fun using their walkers, used their standing frames and worked on using their eye-gaze for literacy and games.

Upper School News 

Pupil completing an activity with symbols in a classroomPost 16 learners have had a very busy week!

We have been actively exploring the local community while researching fresh and exciting ideas for our enterprise projects to sell at the summer fair. This has encouraged pupils to develop their creativity, communication, and teamwork skills as they all worked together to share and discuss their ideas.

In geography, pupils have been creating their own stories as part of our travelling the world topic exploring different countries and areas of interest that inspire them. This has supported imagination, curiosity, and an understanding of the wider world.

During dance, learners have been enthusiastically working together to practise a new group song and performance, building confidence, coordination, and collaboration skills.

In history, we have been exploring toys through the ages. Pupils have thoroughly enjoyed looking at and interacting with toys from different periods in history, comparing how toys have changed over time and engaging in lots of fun hands-on learning experiences.

Well done Upper school we are incredibly proud of you and all your hard work!

Sherwood Manor Campus 

News from the Leadership Team 

Pupil completing a horticulture activityThis week at The Manor, we celebrated May Day with a range of engaging and creative activities. Cardinal Class led our assembly, where pupils enjoyed potting plants, making summery fruit salad and creating seasonal artwork.

Pupils took part in a wide range of practical and interactive learning experiences, including swimming, cooking, creative arts and outdoor play. Swimming sessions were a particular highlight this week, with pupils showing growing confidence, enjoyment and engagement in the water.

In Maths, pupils explored statistics, tally charts, bar graphs, repeated addition and number bonds through hands-on activities using practical resources and collaborative learning games. Literacy and communication activities focused on developing speaking, listening, signing and the use of core boards within meaningful classroom routines.

Creativity and well-being were also central to learning this week, with pupils creating woodland-themed suncatchers, flower field artwork and seasonal displays, alongside enjoying calming sensory and relaxation activities. Cooking sessions encouraged teamwork and independence as pupils prepared a variety of foods, including quesadillas, fruit salad, and egg cress sandwiches, using cress grown at school.

It has been wonderful to see such positive engagement, teamwork, confidence and creativity across the school this week.
