Sherwood Hill Campus 

News from Leadership Team 

This week Sherwood Hill Campus enjoyed celebrating Sports Day. Many of our pupils enjoyed engaging in sporting activities such as hurdles, tug of war and throwing activities. It was lovely to welcome so many of our families to join us. All of our pupils were thrilled to receive their Sports Day medals in class! Well done to everyone who took part. 

Hill Campus – Summer Term events and dates

Donation request 

We are currently looking for book donations to help stock and expand our reading resources. We would be grateful for donations of books suitable for pupils of all ages and interests. If you have any books you would like to donate, they can be sent into school with pupils or handed in at reception.

Lower School News 

Pupil climbing through colourful tunnel Lower School attended Sports Day on Wednesday and enjoyed taking part in a range of activities and games. Pupils showed great enthusiasm and we are very proud of all their efforts. 

In Mint Class pupils enjoyed exploring the colours of the rainbow by building towers with coloured bricks and taking part in colourful scarf dancing. Olive Class had a fantastic week and enjoyed a fun sensory cooking session, exploring different ingredients to put into a sandwich.

In Lime Class, pupils took part in target rolling during PE, rolling balls to knock down skittles and hit targets. Pupils also began a new story, 'Big Red Bath', and engaged in a variety of sensory-based activities linked to the story during literacy sessions. Meanwhile, Teal Class thoroughly enjoyed their weekly dance session with Radiate, showing enthusiasm and brilliant participation. 

Middle School News 

Pupil doing a sensory activity in classIris Class have had a wonderful week and enjoyed making a sweet potato curry during cooking, exploring a variety of vegetables and spices. During play and leisure sessions, pupils demonstrated excellent turn-taking skills while using equipment in the sensory gym.

Capri Class had a fantastic week focusing on developing independence, particularly with road safety skills. Pupils took part in stop-and-go activities and practised safe walking skills during a trip to the shops, using visual supports to stop at the kerb. In literacy, the class explored the story 'The Cautious Caterpillar' and enjoyed a range of activities linked to the letter C.

Ocean Class also had a great week, with pupils developing their play skills through parallel and cooperative activities, including Exploration Station and Duplication Art Station. In literacy, students focused on building their phonological awareness and developing their writing skills.

Sapphire Class have been enjoying their new story, 'The Pigeon Needs a Bath!', and took part in a hands-on activity cleaning dirty toys in a bath. They also enjoyed creating pictograms using data on chocolate Smarties to investigate which colour appeared most often.

Indigo Class have had a lovely week exploring a variety of sensory stories, including 'Monkey Puzzle', 'Pete the Cat', and 'Noah’s Ark'. Pupils did particularly well matching animals to the ark and investigating whether their boats would float in water. 

Upper School News 

Pupil using touch screen Upper School enjoyed taking part in Sports Day this week. Pupils showed fantastic enthusiasm as they joined in with a range of activities throughout the day. Popular activities included target games, tennis, football and running and obstacle courses!

Lavender Class really enjoyed making chicken tikka masala with rice on Monday during their cooking session and were pleased to discover that most of the class really enjoyed eating it too!

This week in Lilac Class, pupils have been learning about hazards and situations where we need to be careful. Everyone was able to match images of hazards and use their AAC to communicate their understanding. Pupils also continued learning about common British birds, identifying their colours and discussing what they eat.

This week, Thistle Class explored the theme of wet and dry. Pupils used a variety of sensory trays to experience different wet and dry materials and extended this learning into our literacy and numeracy lessons. Alongside many valuable learning opportunities, there was plenty of messy fun too!

Everyone is Star of the week for their fantastic exploration, engagement, and participation during Sports Day, as well as their excellent transitions between activities.

Sofia for her excellent engagement during sensory cooking and for independently completing steps of the sandwich-making activity.

Rocco for showing great determination and effort while taking part in all Sports Day activities. 

Lime
Joel for exploring different areas of the classroom, including the book corner and showing excellent engagement in sensory activities. 

Indigo
Anish for his participation during Sports Day and having a fantastic time with his class mates. 

Sapphire
Sean for his hard work and success with transitions throughout the school day, particularly at home time.

Iris
Sean for building his stamina to walk to and from Carshalton Park, and engaging in activities alongside his classmates.

Capri
Dylan for his excellent engagement during stop-and-go activities both in the classroom and in the playground.

Ocean
Izaan for working hard on safe transitions. Well done, Izaan!

Thistle
Jayden for working hard on his regulation and excellent engagement in lessons throughout the week. Well done, Jayden!

Violet
Everyone is Star of the Week for their fantastic engagement during Sports Day. 

Lilac
Abdul Raheem for independently requesting where he would like to go in school, responding to staff using his AAC and engaging positively in sessions. 

Lavender
Lakiesha for her excellent attention and engagement across all learning activities, including cooking and Sports Day, where she particularly enjoyed the balancing activities. 

Wellbeing
Joel for his confidence to explore new areas and engaging in sensory activities.

Therapy
Sean for successfully going to Carshalton Park and back, while also showing a growing ability to engage and interact with staff members. 

Sherwood Park Campus

News from the Leadership Team 

This week Park Campus pupils had a fantastic time taking part in Olympics Week. Throughout the week, everyone enjoyed a wide range of sporting activities, including adapted switch games, football, assisted walking events and races, yoga, dance, swimming, and activities at The Change Foundation. A particular highlight was the Opening Ceremony, where pupils proudly took part in the Olympic torch relay. Thank you to all the pupils, staff, parents, and carers who helped make this such a successful and enjoyable week!

Park Campus - Summer Term events 

Lower School News

Pupil using a walking frame to deliver the Olympic torch Olympics Week was a fantastic success in Lower School with pupils enthusiastically taking part in a wide range of sporting, and creative activities while representing different countries. 

Bluebell Class represented Jamaica and looked amazing dressed in the colours of the national flag for the Opening Ceremony. They learnt about famous athletes from the country, enjoyed traditional music, and explored cultural dances. 

Daffodil Class represented Ghana and enjoyed switch-adapted games, yoga, sensory circuits and swimming races. Hebe Class also enjoyed assisted walking activities, dance, yoga and more. Pupils also looked at the Olympic flag and explored its colours through creative activities. 

Orchid Class represented the Philippines and particularly enjoyed the switch-operated football, tennis, and pinball games - an Olympic first!

Middle School News 

Pupil doing a curling activity Middle School thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Sherwood Park Olympics, including the fantastic Opening Ceremony. Pupils demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the week, particularly during the Sports Day at The Change Foundation and the assisted walking races. Those who remained in school participated in dance sessions with Kirsty. Ibby was so engaged that he chose to continue dancing after the session had finished and even created his own dance routine.

A particular highlight for many pupils was the switch-operated football activity, alongside the swimming sessions. Tulip Class also worked hard during their transition sessions to Sherwood Manor Campus, creating posters about themselves to display in their new classroom. The week concluded with a Closing Ceremony celebrating the pupils’ sporting achievements. Well done to all the pupils for their fantastic efforts throughout the week.

Upper School News 

Pupil waving a flag for Olympics WeekMarigold Class enjoyed a range of sporting events during Olympics Week, with pupils making excellent choices about their preferred activities and fully participating, including the swimathon and games. In cookery, pupils explored foods from Barbados, preparing and tasting fried yellow plantain, green plantain, and dumplings, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Daisy Class had an amazing week embracing a variety of activities, including switch games, fan-powered ball activities, yoga for regulation, relay races, and events at The Change Foundation such as egg and spoon, boccia, and curling. Dahlia Class also had a great time across the week, with boccia being a particular favourite. Peony Class enjoyed the week with some pupils taking part in the assisted walking events and showing strong competitive spirit at The Change Foundation. 

Well done to all the pupils for such a successful week!

Ronnie for engaging in new activities, including Tac Pac, and for printing his own Olympic Rings picture after listening to a book about their meaning in Literacy.

Tiger for returning to swimming after a break and for showing excellent participation in the running race and curling at Sports Day.

Sunflower
Frankie for participating in sports-related activities, building confidence in initiating interactions with his classmates, and using symbols in his PODD book.

Marigold
Ruby for consistently using her communication device and making choices about items she would like to print. 

Tulip
Everyone is Star of the Week for their excellent progress in Maths when learning to halve numbers and for their hard work in independent reading and writing about what they have read.

Lily 
Albert, Leland and Tuesson for their enthusiasm and determination throughout Olympics Week, with Albert shining in the swimming pool, Tuesson excelling in the assisted walking races, and Leland for showing great perseverance in switch-adapted fan football.

Daffodil
Abinaya for being a regulation superstar this week, independently using strategies such as taking a regulation break, going for a walk, and listening to her therapeutic tracks to support her wellbeing.

Daisy Class
Jack for working exceptionally hard using his MyWay walker and showing fantastic independence, determination, and participation during the relay races.

Peony
Aleksander for his fantastic participation in all Olympic activities and for showing great bravery, confidence, and determination during the swimming gala, including letting go of the side to join in with the basketball activity.

Dahlia
Hannah, Calum and David are Stars of the Week for successfully completing their first visit to their new college!

Poppy Class
Everyone is Star of the Week for their outstanding enthusiasm, participation, and teamwork throughout Olympic Week, showing incredible energy and genuine passion for the games. 

Therapy
Sathurja for a successful visit to the Manor Campus including walking up the steps. 

Wellbeing
Sai for his excellent participation in multiple Sports Day races, trying new and out-of-routine activities, and for enthusiastically cheering on his friends and Dad during their events.

Sherwood Manor Campus 

News from the Leadership Team 

Pupil completing a statistics activity This week at Sherwood Manor Campus we celebrated International Butterfly Day in assembly by creating lots of artwork. We also released our butterflies back into the world as they all came out of their cocoons over half-term! We were pleased to host the Studio 111 training for parents in our Sports Hall. It was lovely to share our practice and see parents connecting with each other.

The pupils have continued to explore ‘states’ in science and enjoyed an experiment with milk and washing up liquid, demonstrating how the washing-up liquid repels the proteins in the milk. All classes have continued to learn about statistics in maths and have been writing poetry in literacy.
