Sherwood Foundation School 
In the Green Corridor this week, pupils have enjoyed exploring the topic “Splish, Splash, Splosh”. Mint enjoyed the sensory story “Splosh”, sitting under umbrellas while water was sprayed. Olive Class had fun using a whale popper toy and core vocabulary “slow” and “fast.” Lime Class worked on shapes in numeracy, using large 3D connectors to build triangles and squares. Finally, Teal Class have been out and about enjoying the weather at the local park.
In the Blue Corridor, Iris have been developing their writing skills using alternative pencils in their class diaries during reflection sessions. Capri enjoyed a bowling session as a warm-up for the Mini Marathon, while Ocean Class did brilliantly, completing multiple laps on the field. Indigo Class explored numerical concepts and quantities using concrete resources, and Sapphire Class focused on the story Owl Babies as part of their Enchanted Woodland topic.
In the purple corridor this week Violet made some lovely fruit salads following instructions! Lavender class worked on their ASDAN portfolios where they looked into their theoretical knowledge to improve their understanding of safety at swimming! They enjoyed the sunshine and made gingerbread men which they decorated with blue icing! Lilac has been learning about the concepts ‘up’ and ‘down’ during sensory play sessions.
In Lower School this week, pupils have been busy reading their class PODD story all about pirates. As well as learning about weather symbols and words alongside planting an assortment of vegetables, and enjoying a new story, Mr Grumpy’s Outing, which they found very funny—especially when the characters fell into the river.
In Middle School this week, pupils have started to explore the concept of “up” and “down.” This has been through a range of activities, including literacy (shared reading with support from their speech and language therapist), as well as creativity and regulation through a sensory walk and breathing exercises.
In Upper School this week, Daisy Class explored their Enchanted Woodland theme through creative art using tissue paper and paints. Dahlia Class enjoyed a fantastic bowling trip to celebrate Connor’s 18th birthday, alongside a creative dance session. Peony Class focused on football skills, teamwork, farm work experience, and ICT learning. Marigold students did brilliantly in community work experience, including litter picking, recycling, and cleaning—well done to all for a great week!
It has been a lovely week at Sherwood Manor. Pupils have really engaged with our new topic of Enchanted Woodland, learning about William Shakespeare and his Midsummer’s Night Dream. They have also enjoyed a variety of outdoor learning including making fairy houses using natural resources. Food Technology has involved making fruit skewers and chopping and slicing, practising the fine motor skills to do this effectively. Pupils have started learning about statistics and have been using tallies and Venn diagrams. In our topic assembly pupils celebrated Earth Day and took part in a range of conservation-based activities.
