Sherwood Hill Campus 

News from Leadership Team 

This week, Sherwood Hill celebrated World Bee Day. Classes enjoyed making honey sandwiches, learning about where bees live, and exploring the important role they play in the environment. We also held dance sessions across the school, with fantastic engagement in physical activities.

Please make sure you have the dates for Parents’ Evening (see letters in individual class stories), Sports Day, and Graduation in your diaries.

Hill Campus – Summer Term events and dates

Lower School News 

Pupil doing an activity with paint and a toy dinosaur Mint Class really enjoyed exploring rain and rainbows this week and did a fantastic job creating collage rainbows on paper plates using different colours and textures. They also had lots of fun making rain in the garden with water sprays and coloured water to help keep cool.

Olive Class had a brilliant final week of half term, continuing to explore our topic, 'Splish, Splash Splosh', through water-based sensory play. Pupils also celebrated International Bee Day by making honey sandwiches, practising spreading butter and squeezing honey from the pot.

This week in Science, Teal Class continued learning about states of matter, focusing on solids and liquids. The children also enjoyed their weekly food session, exploring a variety of textures and trying new foods as part of a fantastic sensory experience.

This week in Lime Class, everyone enjoyed P.E. activities focused on throwing and aiming beanbags into hoops and boxes. In Early Literacy, the pupils took part in mark-making activities using a range of sensory materials.

Middle School News 

Pupil using the microwave Capri Class had a busy final week of half term, learning about the frog life cycle in Science, celebrating World Bee Day, and focusing on independence skills in daily activities.

Sapphire Class enjoyed reading 'Foggy Foggy Forest' and exploring shadows in the sunshine. Pupils also enjoyed practising data handling using smarties and have been quick to find the most popular colour before eating them!

Ocean Class started a new story 'The Room On The Broom' and enjoyed activities linked to this. They also had a great time learning about spells, potions and hazardous symbols. 

Iris Class had lots of fun engaging in play and leisure activities, practising turn-taking, building train tracks together, and caring for baby dolls. In Numeracy, students voted for their favourite lesson, with Creativity Music coming out on top.

Indigo Class enjoyed a sensory story about different feelings and then made their own art to express how they felt. Pupils had lots of fun swimming, while also learning water safety.

Upper School News 

Pupil painting on canvasViolet Class had a great final week of half term, including a lovely trip to the park on Tuesday. Everyone also loved making (and eating!) pitta pizzas this week. Pupils focused on developing their independence by chopping ingredients and grating cheese, and the pizzas looked and tasted amazing. 

Lavender Class had a wonderful time enjoying the sunshine and making ice lollies for our Summer enterprise. Pupils sold them on Friday during the hot weather, and they were so popular that they sold out! We’re excited to continue after half term and will be making even more in the coming weeks.

In Lilac class, we wrapped up our learning on jungle animals by creating jungle collages and using AAC devices to name animals from screens and books. During recycling, we explored the properties of paper and plastic and investigated how to tell them apart. In Sensory Maths, we made groups using Pom Poms and large Jenga bricks, and there were some fantastic cakes made in cooking too. 

Thistle class finished the half term with a busy but fun week. Alongside literacy, numeracy and art activities, pupils enjoyed another cooking session, helping to mix, roll and bake biscuits. Every spoonful of ingredients was carefully counted before mixing — and best of all, everyone got to enjoy the tasty results afterwards!

All the pupils are Star of the Week for their great engagement in a variety of activities and for working hard on their self-regulation. Well done, Superstars!

Indigo
All the pupils are Star of the Week! They have had a fantastic week, all engaging in a range of learning activities as a group! Well done Indigo.

Kiaraa for her great work counting and matching numerals to quantities.

Iris
Lucas for actively participating in strategies to support his regulation, well done Lucas!

Capri
Ibrahim for his amazing engagement during literacy and numeracy activities with different members of staff.  Well done Ibrahim!

Ocean
Nathan for demonstrating his passion for science and making really powerful spells and potions! Well done, Nathan!

Thistle
Saahil for his hard work during group activities. Well done Saahil!

Violet
Tobey for engaging in lots of new activities and his participation during cooking, visiting the park, and at the sensory gym. Well done, Tobey!

Lilac
Kelvin for his engagement during vocational activities and taking turns alongside his friends in class.  Well done Kelvin!

Lavender
Harrison for reflecting well on situations and staying regulated in new environments, supporting his classmates, and completing another fantastic piece of artwork. Well done, Harrison!

Wellbeing
Nana for fantastic engagement in his learning and utilising his regulation strategies with different staff.

Therapy
Dylan P for engaging in a specialist OT and SaLT session, using a swing to support his regulation and sustaining focus, while communicating through gestures, facial expressions, and referencing the coreboard.

Sherwood Park Campus

News from the Leadership Team 

Park Campus have had a lovely end to the half term with the warmer weather towards the end of the week. Pupils have enjoyed time outside; engaging in water play, outdoor games, sensory walks and play in the SEN Playground at Beddington Park. Lily class prepared and led an assembly this week which was all about the International Day of Families. Pupils enjoyed dancing to family-themed songs and making collages representing their families.

After half term we have two inset days, therefore pupils return on Wednesday 3rd June. We have an exciting final half term to look forward to, with lots of events on the horizon, such as our Sherwood Park Olympics, including Sports Day on Thursday 11th June at The Change Foundation Cricket Grounds, Key Stage 2 Graduation, Woodlarks Post 16 residential and Accreditation and Achievement Evening for Key stage 4 and Post 16.

Park Campus - Summer Term events 

Lower School News

Pupil swimming Orchid Class students had a very successful and enjoyable trip to the bowling alley in Croydon. Emmanuel scored an impressive 100 to take the crown, with the runner-up close behind on 99!

Bluebell Class explored the weather through a sensory story and especially loved the spray bottle and fan activities. In cooking, they made a delicious rice salad, and all the children did a fantastic job choosing their ingredients and chopping vegetables. In literacy, they were learning how to continue a rhyming string, while also strengthening their fingers during Dough Disco sessions. They also enjoyed a fantastic trip to the park.

Daffodil Class took part in a new sensory story, 'Sharing a Shell'. They enjoyed meeting the three sensory friends from the story, as well as hiding together under the “sky of blue”. The class also completed the letter “e” in Letters and Sounds. In addition, they had another successful session at The Grange Inclusive Play Park.

Hebe Class has been focusing on the topic ‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’, and enjoyed a lot of water play this week.

Middle School News 

Poppy Class have had a fantastic week, they had a shopping trip to Asda where they bought ingredients to mkae carrot cakes. Both Tulip and Poppy enjoyed a Dance class with Samuel and the Open Orchestra. Tulip Class explored sorting animals into categories based on their similarities and compared the differences. Sunflower Class have explored creating a variety of food and drinks alongside other life skills.They are also really enjoying their shared reading sessions, where they have demonstrated excellent group participation. Lily Class organised and led an assembly about the International Day of Families. Everyone joined in with art activities, and dancing.

Upper School News 

Pupil in a wheelchair looking at a symbol chartPeony class had a great time on a trip bowling, exploring the arcade and also had a lovely lunch out together. We have planned a new addition for our enterprise with Dahlia class which will be for sale just in time for Father's Day. We are very excited to show you!

In Marigold students have been demonstrating confidence and willingness to engage with new people during their work experience opportunities. They have made excellent progress in regulation lessons through identifying emotions and interoceptive body cues, developing a better understanding of who can help to support them with emotional regulation. Dahlia have worked hard on developing a new sensory story about a safari – watch this space!

All our pupils are star of the week, we are so proud of their effort and progress this term, especially in developing their independence skills.

Tate for showing fantastic progress by working consistently towards his PLP targets, supporting classmates, engaging confidently during work experience, and showing excellent understanding in regulation lessons.

Tulip
Ella for showing enthusiasm in all her learning, participating in group discussions, working independently through challenges, and making great progress in swimming.

Lily 
Albert for his fantastic swimming session, showing great regulation in the pool and impressing everyone with his acrobatics in the water. Well done, Albert!

Ayaan for his excellent participation in a numeracy session, touch counting the currant buns and engaging brilliantly in a role play activity. Amazing work, Ayaan!

Daisy Class
Rayan for his outstanding participation in work and music therapy, and for developing his social skills by initiating interactions with his friends.

Hassan for fantastic participation during a community leisure activity, being a brilliant team player, and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and encouragement towards his classmates.

Z’rae for her engagement in developing a new sensory story. She explored a range of switches and resources independently! Well done Z’rae.

Poppy Class
Mila for showing fantastic resilience and a positive approach when trying new therapeutic music and wearing headphones. Well done, Mila!

Therapy
Sai for his amazing participation in a targeted play group session, exploring different toys with enthusiasm, independently using the coreboard, and interacting brilliantly with others. Well done, Sai!

Wellbeing
George for working hard on his regulation, trying and enjoying a new food, and  engaging positively with a social story. Well done, George!

Sherwood Manor Campus 

News from the Leadership Team 

pupil painting What a wonderful last week to the half term. The sun has been shining and our pupils have been enjoying their learning based around nature in our topic Enchanted Woodland. They have been learning about verbs through ‘The Squirrels who Squabbled’ and others have enjoyed a sensory story of ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’. Pupils have made fairy houses out of natural materials and Cardinal have made forest habitats in shoeboxes. Pupils have also been learning about their own bodies and how to take care of them in RSE. We had a lovely Topic assembly about cultural diversity and today have celebrated how there can be all types of different families in our celebration assembly. We’ve had a lot of birthdays this week and have enjoyed all the delicious cake that has been shared.
