How will we be spending the Sports Premium funding:
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all. We intend to use this Sports Premium to continue and boost our sports provision, through further enhancement of our PE curriculum and our Extended Schools provision. This will help to ensure that our pupils are given every opportunity to be healthy, confident and with support, take part in a range of sports thus raising participation and achievement for all.
It will enable the school to provide funding for:
- Specialist dance coach from ‘Radiate’ (SPC/SHC)
- A Crystal Palace Football in the Community coach (SPC)
- Horse riding in Diamond Centre (SPC)
- Bouldering sessions at the Yellow Spider Centre (SHC)
- Inclusive cycling sessions (SHC)
- One off events, for example, cycling and Eco- Cycling sessions, bowling (SPC/SHC)
- Sporting Equipment (SPC/SHC/SMC)
- Maintenance of sporting equipment (including servicing of school cycles and swimming equipment) (SPC/SHC/SMC)
- Organisation of Sports Day (SPC/SHC/SMC)
- Purchase of additional resources to enhance pupils experience (SPC/SHC)
We aim to:
- Increase engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport
- Provide pupils with a range of opportunities to experience different sporting and physical activities, including horse riding, swimming, cycling and climbing.
- Raise the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
- Provide an annual thematic day based on ‘Sports Activities’ /an all-inclusive Sports Day.
- Increase all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
- Staff to model best practice by observing/supporting during activities delivered by specialists (football and dance teacher coaches)
- Offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
- Provide our pupils with a greater range of physical activities that these pupils do not always have the opportunity to access
- Increase the provision of Dance sessions in curriculum time
- Increase access to the swimming pool to ensure that all Sherwood Park pupils are able to swim regularly.
- To support regular swimming by ensuring that support staff are available to assist.
- Increase participation in competitive sport.
Impact/Effect:
We will measure the impact/effect of the activities provided through Sports Premium funding by:
- Monitoring the numbers of pupils involved in sporting activities during curriculum and break time.
- Monitoring the number of pupils that participate in sporting competitions and their achievements. This will be evident from the number of awards/certificates and medals pupils win
- Monitoring each pupil’s progress in their ‘Physical’ and ‘Social and Emotional’ Personalised Learning Programme Targets/ Outcomes
- Gaining feedback from school staff and external coaches
Year 6 Swimming competency statement
Pupils at Sherwood Foundation School continue to work towards developing their confidence, and proficiency at swimming at least 25 metres in the pool. So far none of our Year 6 pupils can swim 25 metres, use a range of strokes or perform safe and self-rescue in different water based situations. This is a result of their developmental and physical delay.
