Training for Parents & Carers
At Sherwood Foundation School we offer a wide range of training for families. This includes the following:
Training for parents & carers new to our school
This is Campus Specific Training offered to parents and carers new to our school on understanding the approaches we use in school and to provide strategies and support in how these can be embedded into home life.
Whole School Approaches
Online and in person training on key areas including:
- Understanding Autism from strengths focused, a neuroaffirming perspective
- Using the practice of Self-Reg
- Using play including the principles of DIR-Floortime to build relationships and support learning
- Total communication approach, including use of aided language stimulation & robust AAC
- Natural Language Acquisition and Gestalt Language Processing
- Developing independence
- Environmental adaptations and assistive technology
Pupil Specific Training
Online and in person training on interventions for specific pupils or groups of pupils including:
- Designing & implementing Self-Reg plans, including sensory strategies
- Use of specific communication systems & AAC
- Positioning & physical programmes
- Strategies to support sleep, toileting etc
- Puberty
- Preparing for adulthood
- Using low arousal approach & Studio 111 to manage behaviour & keep you & your child safe
