PE and Sports Premium
The use of and proposed impact/effect of primary PE and Sports Premium at Sherwood Foundation School 2024-2025
Background:
The sports funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department for Health and Culture and the Department for Media and Sport. It has been allocated to schools with primary aged children and is ring-fenced, meaning that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and Sport in schools.
The PE and sport premium is in place to help pupils to be more healthy and active. It should be used to make sustainable improvements to the PE, sport and physical activity you provide, such as:
- Funding high-quality PE and sport for at least 2 hours a week
- Providing a wide range of extracurricular sport and competitive opportunities
- Providing or improving equal access to sport for boys and girls
The DfE also identifies 5 key priorities for improvement:
- Increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
- Increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport
- Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
- Offering a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
- Increasing participation in competitive sport
Allocation:
Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil. For the academic year 2024-2025, Sherwood Park School will receive an amount of £16,780 with additional £1,823 carried over from last year.
How will we be spending the Sports Premium funding:
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all. We intend to use this Sports Premium to continue and boost our sports provision, through further enhancement of our PE curriculum and our Extended Schools provision. This will help to ensure that our pupils are given every opportunity to be healthy, confident and with support, take part in a range of sports thus raising participation and achievement for all.

- A Crystal Palace Football in the Community coach (SPC)
- Specialist coach for panathlon sports (SPC)
- Swimming at the Waddon leisure Centre (funding both coach/life-guard and supporting staff) (SPC/SHC)

Increase all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
- Staff to model best practice by observing/supporting during activities delivered by specialists (football, panathlon and dance teacher coaches)
Offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
- Provide our pupils with a greater range of physical activities that these pupils do not always have the opportunity to access
- Increase the provision of Dance sessions in curriculum time
- Expand our Panathlon activities to include additional Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils which will enable more pupils to participate in Panathlon
- Increase access to the swimming pool to ensure that all Sherwood Park pupils are able to swim regularly. To support regular swimming by ensuring that support staff are available to assist.
Increase participation in competitive sport
- Provide Panathlon training sessions to enable pupils to participate in Panathlon Challenge Competitions resulting in an increased participation in competitive sport.
- Enable pupils to participate in daily mile before the start of lessons, each morning to prepare them for the start of the day.
Impact/Effect:
We will measure the impact/effect of the activities provided through Sports Premium funding by:
- Monitoring the numbers of pupils involved in sporting activities during curriculum and break time.
- Monitoring the number of pupils that participate in sporting competitions and their achievements. This will be evident from the number of awards/certificates and medals pupils win
- Monitoring each pupil’s progress in their ‘Physical’ and ‘Social and Emotional’ Personalised Learning Programme Targets/ Outcomes
- Gaining feedback from school staff and external coaches
Year 6 Swimming competency statement
Pupils at Sherwood Park School continue to work towards developing their confidence, and proficiency at swimming at least 25 metres in the pool. So far none of our Year 6 pupils can swim 25 metres, use a range of strokes or perform safe and self-rescue in different water based situations. This is a result of their developmental and physical delay.
